Lulu Kennedy Sees Herself As A "Foster Mum" To Young Designers

           Lulu Kennedy sees herself as a "foster mum" to young designers

The designer is renowned for honing talent - having been instrumental in the rise of designers including Roksanda Ilincic, Gareth Pugh and Jonathan Saunders - and advises all hopefuls to seek help and collaboration in their nascent careers.

She told The Guardian newspaper her best advice was: "Don't try to do everything by yourself."

Of the role her Fashion East company plays, she added: "I'm just a foster mum. The designers are with me for one or two seasons and then I let them go. I can't grant them wishes. They make things happen. They've got to put the work in."

Lulu - who describes her personality as a "bossy big sister" - also explained the way in which the non-profit Fashion East initiative can aid designers in launching their careers.

She added: "Yeah, they're all friends. Basically, what we do is select designers we believe in the most and who need some support and then we give them sponsorship, a show, advice and mentoring. We bring a good audience into the show and we give them a small bursary as well, which doesn't get very far. The equivalent would be a music industry showcase

Rihanna is a self-proclaimed rebel in most every area of her life — except for one.

 “[I'm] rebellious through my music, through my fashion, tattoos, and my hair,” the superstar tells the August issue of Harper’s Bazaar.But she also spills: “I have been conservative in my love life… it’s pretty much nonexistent. If I come across someone who I find really cool, I’ll hang out. But the minute I find that we’re getting too close I just — I don’t let people in.”The Barbadian beauty, who covers the magazine’s newsstand’s edition (left) in a white silk Calvin Klein Collection dress paired with a gold chain-linked Neil Lane bracelet, also reveals how hurt she’s felt in previous relationships.

                                “When I was in love, I fell so hard…The way it made me feel was priceless,” she      admits. “And in a blink of an eye my whole life changed. Everything that I knew was different. I never thought I’d feel that pain in my life. I’m afraid of feeling that again.”

 Although the star is cautious when it comes to matters of the heart, she’s once again proven via the magazine’s subscriber edition (below) that she’s very comfortable taking fashion risks. On the second cover she rocks a gold long-sleeve gown and knee-high snakeskin boots (both by Tom Ford).

And while it seems Rihanna is generally content (and really, who wouldn’t be in those killer snakeskin boots?!), there is something she says she’s missing. “I need a butt. I have an idea of one, but it’s not living up to its full potential right now.”
